Leisure

What is this life if full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare?

No time to stand beneath the boughs,

And stare as long as sheep and cows:

No time to see, when woods we pass,

Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass:

No time to see, in broad daylight,

Streams full of stars, like skies at night:

Not time to turn at Beauty’s glance,

And watch her feet, how they can dance:

Not time to wait till her mouth can

Enrich that smile her eyes began?

A poor life this if, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare.

W H Davies

Set yourself a goal

Set yourself a goal

Let your aim be very high

You are so very young-yet so old-

Never say “I can’t” say “I will try”

Give yourself a chance

Give yourself a chance

Give yourself the time

Cross the river

Where you are

The spring sun

The spring sun, silent

Creeps like a little thief

Between the buds and branches

And gilds the new born leaf

Dreams are renewable

Dreams are renewable

No matter what our age or conditions

There are still untapped possibilities

Within us

And new beauty waiting to be born!

Make haste to be kind

Posted on by

Life is short

And we have not much time

For gladdenings!

The lives of others

Who are travelling

The dark road with us

O be swift to love

Make haste to be kind

Henri-Frederic Amiel

Keep faith in today

Posted on by

Yesterday is no more

Tomorrow is not yet with us

But today is where we live, love, laugh

Cry, pray and share our all

Today makes our tomorrows

Keep faith in today

Grateful for another day to live

Grateful for another day to live

To love, survive?

I find such simple pleasures

Just by walking in rain

For every day that comes to me

Is never quite the same

Each moment is precious

Each breath I inward take

My heartbeat is passing time

The thoughts that I shall make

Mostly I take for granted

Such beauty everywhere

But suddenly I realize the wonder

I can share!

To see a world in a grain of sand

To see a world in a grain of sand

And heaven in a wild flower

Hold infinity in the palm of your hand

And eternity in an hour

William Blake

My grandmothers were strong

Posted on by

My grandmothers were strong

They followed ploughs and bent to toil

They moved through fields sowing seeds

They touched Earth and grain grew

They were full of sturdiness and song

My grandmothers were strong

They spun cotton into thread

On the charkha

And made cloth to dress their children

My grandmothers were strong

They milked cows and buffaloes

And boiled the milk to

Make curd and then butter

And fed the family with

Milk, butter milk and butter

They loved their families

Yes, my grandmothers were strong

Margaret Walker
